Director, Sorenson Centers for the Arts - Student Affairs
Reports to:
Dean, Student Affairs
Job Summary:
The Director oversees the performing arts center, studio art center, and music programs. Responsible for creating and managing a fully functioning program involving students, faculty, staff, and the general public with local and touring artists and artists in residence. Will collaborate with appropriate faculty members to formulate Center offerings in these areas.
Essential Responsibilities:
• Designs, implements, and coordinates high-quality performing arts presentations that are diverse in media, style, content, culture, and era of origin.
• Understands and utilizes existing performing arts networks, nationally, and regionally.
• Formulates specific short- and long-range plans to meet the goals of the program and of the College as a whole.
• Provides direct leadership and mentorship to arts-related student clubs and organizations at Babson and Olin College; mentors students who have a specific interest in relating business learning to the arts.
• Works effectively with students, faculty, and staff in both the liberal arts and business divisions of the College.
• Maximizes the integration of Center programs with academic study (both arts and humanities and business-related).
• Develops a plan for programming and scheduling the Center spaces for multiple users (internal and external) and demonstrates appropriate prioritization of student performances, general programming, and income generating rentals.
• Plans and collaborates with artists on projects ranging from single-night performances to long-term residences.
• Creates and manages a $350,000 operating budget which includes contracting procedures and other legal and financial issues related to running an arts facility.
• Secures contracts with outside arts groups to achieve rental income targets, specifically during off-peak times (vacation periods and summer months).
• Understands arts funding sources, fundraising approaches, and other income-producing strategies. Works with Development staff at the College to formulate and implement fundraising strategies for the Center.
• Coordinates facility maintenance and security approaches.
• Identifies and implements opportunities for collaborative partnerships on arts programs through the three-college partnership between Babson, Wellesley, and Olin College.
• Works collaboratively with external groups to cultivate audiences for Center offerings, to diversify programs, and to meet the needs of artists within Greater Boston.
• Works with advisory committees for the visual and performing arts made up of a representative group of students, staff, and faculty.
• Participates in the development of policy for the College when appropriate.
• Assumes additional responsibilities as required.

Technical Director Administrative Assistant Part-time professionals (including Artist-in-Residence) Work-study students
Job Requirements:
Minimum Level of Education Required: Master’s Degree
Minimum Level of Experience Required: 8-10 years or related experience or the equivalent
Working Conditions: Occasional physical exertion required Ability to travel on and off campus; evening and weekend work expected.
